Quasi una fantasia
Festival director Sebastian Bohren has already expressed his desire for artistic expansion with the opera production at the beginning. Full of the joy of experimentation, the final concert takes a further step into the town of Brugg: the campus hall of the University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland near the railway station serves mainly as a conference venue. For the concert, the 600-seat hall will be equipped with a special reverberation system that will optimise the acoustics for classical music. Sebastian Bohren will once again take up the violin himself: Othmar Schoeck's late Romantic violin concerto 'Quasi una fantasia' was written for the violinist Stefi Geyer, with whom the Swiss composer was unhappily in love. Béla Bartók was also attracted to the lady and dedicated his first violin concerto to her. Stefi Geyer must have been an extraordinary musician with a fascinating charisma - not entirely unlike the conductor Izabelė Jankauskaitė, who made her successful debut with 'Stretta Concerts' last season. Schoeck is also likely to have known Hugo Wolf's Italian Serenade. His composition teacher Max Reger arranged the chamber music work for orchestra. The final concert ends with the energetic finale of Schubert's Third Symphony: "A presto!" at the Brugg Festival 2024.
